Who we are

The North Dakota Marriage and Family Therapy Licensure Board (NDMFTLB) was established by the North Dakota Legislature in 2005. Our mission is to adopt and enforce rules for marriage and family therapy licensing, which are designed to protect the public.


  • Regulates licensees through educational requirements, supervised experience, and  national and state examinations
  • Establishes and implements procedures designed to assure that licensed marriage and family therapists comply with the board’s rules
  • Adopts and implements a code of ethics for all licensed marriage and family therapists
  • Establishes continuing education requirements for marriage and family therapists
